SELL MEDIUM AND HIGH VOLTAGE CABLE
Shielded primary cable is the highest-value material on most surplus lists, and the one where documentation matters most.
Overview
Medium voltage cable runs from 5kV through 35kV and is built very differently from building wire: a stranded copper or aluminum conductor, a semiconductive conductor shield, EPR or XLPE insulation, an insulation shield, metallic shielding — tape, wire or concentric neutral — and an overall jacket. Above 35kV the construction gets heavier still, and 69kV and up cable only shows up in utility and large industrial settings.
In Utah this material comes from utility surplus and reconductoring, substation and underground distribution projects, mining and industrial power work, wind and solar interconnections, and data center primary distribution. A single reel of 15kV 750 MCM copper can be a significant transaction, which is why we ask for detail before talking numbers.
We buy full reels, partial reels and cut lengths, provided the construction can be identified. Reel tags, factory test reports, and the jacket print all help. Where cable has been in service or stored outdoors for years, say so — it changes how we handle inspection.
What we buy
Medium and high voltage cable we purchase in Utah
- 5kV, 8kV, 15kV, 25kV, 35kV and 69kV+ cable when available
- EPR and XLPE insulated primary cable
- Shielded cable with tape shield, wire shield or concentric neutral
- Copper and aluminum conductors from #2 through 1000 MCM
- URD primary, aerial and submarine constructions
- Full reels, partial reels and factory-sealed lengths
Storage history matters
Primary cable stored outdoors for years, or left with exposed ends, needs inspection before anyone commits. Tell us where it has been and we will plan accordingly.

Details that speed up a quote
None of this is mandatory. It is simply what lets us answer with a number instead of a follow-up question.
- Voltage class as marked: 15kV, 25kV, 35kV
- Insulation type: EPR or XLPE, and insulation thickness if known
- Conductor size, metal and strand type
- Shield construction: concentric neutral, tape, wire, or armored
- Footage remaining, reel size and how the reel has been stored
- Any factory test reports, reel tags or cable schedule references
- Photos of the reel tag, the jacket print and the cable end
