Wire we buy
SELL SURPLUS ALUMINUM WIRE
Aluminum feeders are how most large Utah services are built, which means the leftover reels are large, heavy and worth a real conversation.
Overview
Aluminum building wire — almost always AA-8000 series alloy in modern construction — is the standard choice for service entrances, large feeders, subpanels and utility-side work because it delivers the same ampacity as copper at lower weight and cost. It shows up as XHHW-2 single conductor, THHN/THWN-2 in conduit, SER and SEU assemblies, URD direct-burial cable and USE-2.
Because aluminum is usually ordered in big sizes, surplus tends to be big too: a 4/0 or 500 MCM reel left after a service upgrade, a partial reel of 2/0 from a panel change, or several full reels from a project that was redesigned. We buy all of it, full or partial, provided we can identify the size and alloy.
One caution for sellers: aluminum has to be identified correctly. A reel marked AA-8000 in 4/0 is a different material from old-style EC grade aluminum, and small-gauge aluminum branch wire from the 1960s and 70s is a different conversation again. Send the tag and we will tell you what we can do with it.

Small-gauge aluminum is a separate question
Old 10 and 12 gauge aluminum branch wire is handled differently from modern AA-8000 feeder conductor. Send a photo of the print line and we will tell you honestly whether it fits what we buy.

Details that speed up a quote
None of this is mandatory. It is simply what lets us answer with a number instead of a follow-up question.
- Alloy marking from the jacket: AA-8000, 1350, EC grade or unknown
- Size and conductor count, especially for SER and URD assemblies
- Footage and reel size
- Voltage rating if it is marked
- Whether the cable has been buried, pulled or never installed
- Photos of the reel tag and the printed legend on the jacket
